It’s coming up to the holiday season, which is what most of us have been getting ready for! – Does that mean we deserve a break when we go on vacation? Of course, everyone needs a rest from daily workouts and healthy meals but that doesn’t mean eating to the point where you feel nauseous and guilty afterwards.

We’ll all allowed a couple days off to enjoy ourselves, but as I tell all of my clients, those cheat days should still contain some sort of healthy, nutritious food to fuel your body. A week of takeaways and processed food could really impact your body and could even get you back to your old eating habits. Remember – it’s a healthy lifestyle, not a quick fix.

So, here are a couple of tips that we have come up with to get you through your holiday without completely destroying all of your previous hard work.

1) Schedule a couple of workouts – Holidays are about laying around all day and doing nothing, it’s the best part! But we know you would feel much more productive and satisfied if you started your day off with a workout. Even just a 10-20 HIIT workout, you don’t need equipment and only a small space. It doesn’t have to be strict, go for a long beach walk, rent bikes or go for a quick jog – anything is better than nothing.

2) Don’t use up all your calories on drinks – We know you will want to wind down and have a good time, but try to make healthier alcohol decisions. A poolside frozen margarita can contain 700 calories! Try something lighter like red or white wine.


3) Make better decisions with your food – You more likely to dine out or indulge in the all-inclusive buffet, but try not to go straight for chips, burgers and other fried foods all day, every day. Ensure you have some fruit or veg with every meal. Also make sure to pack some snacks if you’re going on a day out to stop you from buying unhealthy snacks as a last resort.

4) Stay hydrated! – you’re bound to be drinking quite a bit of alcohol when you’re on holiday, or you may be the complete opposite and forget to drink when you’re sunbathing or walking on the beach. Whatever you’re doing, make sure you take a bottle of water with you. Often being thirsty is confusing with feeling hungry, so when you feel like overeating or snacking, have some water – it could be your body playing tricks!

There you have it, 4 tips to stop yourself from falling off the wagon when taking some time to relax! Your health is something you should take care of all year round, not just when you feel like it.
